The days are rushing by, and here in the Northern Hemisphere, we are moving towards that shortest day, the Winter Solstice.
And of course, with multiple holidays upon us, those days do indeed feel shorter.
For me, I am in major extroversion-period: social engagements almost every night, racing to see all my clients and get creative and administrative work done before the end of the year.
Not much in terms of reflective and solo time.
For you, I imagine you might be heading into family gatherings, whether that be a positive or a negative.
Or feeling lonely because you don’t have a calendar filled with social events, large and small.
As empaths, of course there is a tendency to feel everything even more deeply.
And get caught up in over-extending or over-hibernating, both of which feel…well…you’d prefer it to be OVER.
So what do you do to smooth out the “over”? To take care of yourself, to monitor your own system’s capacity for togetherness…or alone-time?
First, if you haven’t downloaded my free meditations, do so right now:
They are designed to take you OUT of what can feel like a long, overloaded season and bring you back into each moment.
Right here. Right now.
There’s a way that being in the present can both slow down what is too fast and shrink what seems too long.
And, while it seems so trite and so dang obvious…
Whatever brings you peace, whatever gives you a sense of space…or connection whatever brings you even the teeniest bit of pleasure and joy…
Bring it to mind and heart frequently…
While making your bed, taking a shower, cleaning up in the kitchen, or even being stopped in traffic (hey, you got to stop for a moment).
When we bring the good to our awareness, we stimulate all of the feel-good hormones.
Our nervous systems relax into more of a sense of safety and well-being.
And doing that over and over gradually, subtly, starts to create a habit of feeling OK. Good even.
Time to use simple moments to recharge your empathic resilience.
To rest in the dark, and to dance in the coming light.
‘Tis the season.
P.S. Whatever the season when you read this, Empathic Resilience is critically important! Get those FREE meditations (and why you are doing them) AND get notified as soon as my course, Build Better Boundaries, opens. Click here:
