Feeling overwhelmed by the distress in the world?
I woke up early this morning, and trying to stay still so that my beloved could continue sleeping, I carefully picked up my phone and…(POOR CHOICE) started reading the news.
Yeah, NOT the way to start one’s day.
By the time she awoke, I was Awful Grumps Herself (AGH!). And, sheesh, I know better!!!
I am empathically very sensitive, and I easily both erupt and collapse from The News.
I want to be an informed and responsible citizen.
How do I manage so much dire news: Our climate disaster of our own making, the efforts to dismantle hard-won civil (ironic, that descriptor) rights, all of the pain and rancor in the world…
I have been reading some hard books recently—Falter by Bill McKibben most recently, Who Do We Choose To Be? by Margaret Wheatley—along with my geek-out books on Polyvagal Theory and somatic healing (these are all about resilience and healing, thank goodness!).
(And when I do watch a little TV, I am still catching up with back episodes of Madame Secretary on Netflix—and she always saves the day!!!)
While those first two books are serious about the crises we face as inhabitants of our planet, the solution is basically the same—Yes, make radical changes NOW to help our planet be hospitable to all of her creatures and beings…
But also build community of care, right where you are!
And so HERE is one of the places where I belong…with caring, highly sensitive folks supporting one another…empaths building skills to help us be RESILIENT, so that we can support, create, heal, help our communities and our planet…
I know, emotionally, physiologically, and most important, spiritually that Connection and being engaged with my fellow beings (in their delicious diversity), my Mother Planet, and all of the Guidance available to me are THE BEST REMEDIES for overwhelm.
And so I write this to remind me, but also to remind you. We are better together—with Nature, with each other, with all in balance, however tricky that is to create in reality.
And NO reading the news first thing after awakening!!!
